I moved into my new house in 2017. It was an extremely tight budget, but I was able to accomplish a lot. I was able to add a large loft to the back of the house, make a living space for both of my kids, and completely transform the downstairs into a kitchen, which is awesome. My biggest challenge was trying to keep the budget down.
I’ve always loved all things kitchen, but honestly, the kitchen was one of the things I had to cut back on. Not so much on the actual appliances, but rather on the basic items like food preparation, cleaning, and the organization of the kitchen. I was able to make do with what I had, but I still wanted to do more.
With the help of a friend who was a professional chef, I was able to put together a beautiful meal with an even greater sense of accomplishment. I cooked a simple meat dish, and just added in a few other things just to add to the overall effect. Of course I used the basic tools I had on hand with the exception of my chef’s knife, but I was able to create a meal that was both tasty and impressive.
I was not able to do everything I wanted to do, but I was able to do a lot. Of course, that was the thing I was most excited about, and it was worth it.
When I think about it I realize even though I’m a vegetarian I am still able to really appreciate meat. I can still crave a steak and call it a meal, and I can still take a fork to a piece of meat that I’ve been eating for years without feeling guilty. The real question I have with this is whether or not I can still enjoy meat, and if I can, what that means for my overall health.
This is one of those questions that seems so simple, but you have to take time to think about this. I am a vegetarian, and for years I ate meat because I thought it was the only way to eat meat. Now, I know meat is a fairly cheap and healthy food, and my body really needs it, but if I don’t eat it then I need to really think about what I am missing.
So when it comes to meat, I think people need to look at their own lives and compare the habits they have with those of the world around them. When I was a kid I would go to school and get hungry and eat everything in sight. Now that I cant get any food at my home, I try to do a lot better.
My parents will never understand the difference between a good meal and a good meal. They will be amazed at how much we eat, and I don’t think there’s a way to teach my parents to be more careful when it comes to this.
