We are so afraid of being wrong that we often fail to see the need for revision in our life, thinking that if we never do something, then we wont be wrong. We think we should always be doing things, but in reality we can be doing things much more than we think we should be. So why is this so? Because we are afraid of the consequences of our mistakes. We don’t see the need to revise our lives so we dont have to stop and think about it every time we wipe our ass or start a car. To truly change, we must first change our lives. To change the way we think, we have to be open to the possibilities of life changing.
I don’t know about you, but I have a great deal of trouble making myself see the need to change my behavior. Of course, I have to be open to change. But I’m not seeing a way to change anything except my anxiety. I can’t get past the fact that I’ve started to feel the need to change my behavior. And I am completely terrified of what I’m afraid of.
I have a friend whose husband was diagnosed with cancer when he was an infant, but he went through a very long recovery from his disease, so he didn’t have to deal with the anxiety that comes with his diagnosis. In his case, he became an amazing person. He went to therapy, and he wrote a book. He also became a devoted counselor and was an inspiration for a whole lot of people who found themselves in a similar situation.
He’s now a counselor, and he’s also the only person I know who actually understands how I feel. All it takes for me to have the confidence to talk about my fears is to actually talk about them. I just have to find the courage to say, “I am scared.
